The Technical Textiles Research Centre at the University of Huddersfield brings together expertise in numerous fields of science, including Technical Textiles, Engineering, Digital Technologies, Textile Processing, Cellulose Science, Composites Science, Medical Textiles (implantable, non- implantable and healthcare environment), Fibre and Polymer Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Surface Functionalisation. The Centre is made up of a multi-disciplinary team of academics, researchers and students from Chemistry, Engineering and Textiles to foster true transdisciplinary research.
One of our primary strengths is the close relationships we have with industry partners. Our knowledge, expertise and facilities are proven to help businesses meet their objectives, whether it is developing solutions to production problems, adding functionality to existing products, or developing innovative new textile processes and products. Our team has worked with industry bodies, multinational companies, SMEs and government organisations.
The transdisciplinary nature of our research has equipped us with a diverse range of facilities, including a conditioned textile testing laboratory, wet processing laboratory, textile processing laboratory, chemistry laboratories, microbiological laboratories, computational chemistry suite, analytical laboratories and access to other facilities on the University of Huddersfield’s award-winning campus.
Following feedback from industry we have developed a new postgraduate course, MSc Product Innovation with Textiles, offering students a strong foundation in textile properties, design management, research methodology and sustainability in order to inspire and guide their textile product innovations.
